In Zipaquirá, 50 kilometers coming out from the northside of Bogotá, is the largest salt mine in Colombia. Although the mines date back to the time of the Muiscas, primitive inhabitants of the region, it has been intensively exploited, and they continue to have enormous reserves. In the heart of the mountain, an underground salt cathedral was dug, constituting a monumental work of engineering, architecture, and design. With a capacity of 10,000 people, it is the most visited tourist attraction in Colombia.
